BIOGRAPHY

Professor Gu Yan is the director of general surgery (comprises of gastrointestinal surgery, breast and thyroid surgery, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, hernia and abdominal wall surgery, and bariatric and metabolic surgery) at the Huadong Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University. He has commenced the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses such as 'Surgery, Obesity Medicine, and Obesity Therapy'. He is the Chief Editor of three monographs, including ' Practical of Obesity and Metabolic Surgery', 'Practical of Abdominal Wall Surgery', and 'Early Diagnosis and Treatment of Colorectal Cancer'. Associate editor of one monograph, 'Surgical Diagnosis and Differential Diagnosis'. Participated in the editing of 13 other monographs; Professor Gu Yan led the development of 9 Chinese consensus and guidelines, including 'Chinese expert consensus on adult ventral abdominal wall defect repair and reconstruction', 'Chinese expert consensus on laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy as ambulatory surgery (2021 version)', and 'Chinese expert consensus on surgical treatment of obesity combined with abdominal wall hernia (2021 version)'. Participated in the development of 25 consensus and guidelines; Responsible for over 30 national and provincial level scientific research projects, including 6 National Natural Science Foundation projects; Nurture more than 50 postdoctoral, doctoral and master's students. Over 200 papers have been published in domestic and international journals as lead author or corresponding author, which includes 67 SCI papers. Received the third prize of Huaxia Science and Technology Progress Award and the first prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award.
