Our History
School of Nursing, Fudan University has a history of nearly 100 years, which originated from the Union Nursing School affiliated to Ximen Women's and Children's Hospital in 1920. The Union Nursing School was enlarged into the Nursing School affiliated to Shanghai First Medical College by its combination with two other nursing schools in 1952.
The undergraduate nursing program was launched in the Nursing Division of Shanghai Medical University in 1985, which was one of the first five institutions that resumed undergraduate nursing education in China. The Nursing Division was then enlarged and combined with the affiliated Nursing School, developed into School of Nursing, Shanghai Medical University on December 19th, 1997. It was renamed School of Nursing, Fudan University after the combination of Shanghai Medical University and Fudan University.
The school developed master of nursing program in 1995, and doctoral nursing program in 2008. In 2009, it became one of the first universities to start Master of Nursing Specialist education in China. In 2011, Degree Office of Chinese State Council granted the school to be one of the first batch of schools offering master degree and doctor degree in nursing as the first level discipline. In 2012, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be one of the first eight Post-doctoral Research Stations. In the same year, the nursing discipline was authorized to be the first-class discipline in Shanghai.

Historical Highlights
1887, Ximen Women's and Children's Hospital is started-The First Nurse Training Class in China.
1920, Union Nursing School affiliated to Ximen Women's and Children's Hospital is founded and
an American nurse was the first principal.
1921, The Red Cross Society of China, the First Medical Nurse School started operation.
1928, Wu Zheying, the first Chinese to serve as president of the Chinese Nurses Association, is
the principal and director of the nursing department.
1936, Yang Yinghua became the principal of Senior Nurse School of Zhongshan Hospital.
1952, Named as The Shanghai First Medical College School of Nursing.
1983, The Shanghai First Medical College had Nursing Junior College.
1985, Shanghai Medical University owned Nursing-undergraduate.
1995, Shanghai Medical University, Nursing-Master Program started.
1997, School of Nursing, Shanghai Medical University is established.
2000, Renamed as School of Nursing, Fudan University.
2011, Nursing-Doctoral Program is started.
2012, Postdoctoral Research Station built.
